Impeachment Investigations Truly scary news for Trump

Impeachment Investigations: Truly scary news for Donald Trump

Trump’s Impeachment Investigation is unstoppable now. Trumps crimes and those of Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell and all the other Republicans are all about to become exposed. The people will see on TV just who are now putting their party ahead of their country. This impeachment isn’t only about justice, but about restoring election system security. Only an educated electorate can rebuff Soviet weaponization of social media. Un-Hack the minds of Donald’s dupes.

One of the most respected pollsters in the country has released stunning new polling on impeachment.

The pollster, Ann Selzer, used language that is more accessible than is typical in a national poll, asking, “Is it okay with you or not okay for political candidates in the U.S. to ask for assistance from a foreign government to help them win an election?”1

Just 7% of U.S. adults said it’s okay. Eighty-one percent said it is not okay.2

Trump fears a public impeachment investigation on TV

Polling this lopsided is simply unheard of today. These findings are devastating for Donald Trump. And a HUGE opportunity for us.
The public is ready and desirous of a public impeachment investigation.

That’s why we’re poised to hire organizers and film crews to stake out Capitol Hill in order to ask that simple question to GOP members of Congress, catch their responses on camera, and then run those videos as ads to make sure that their constituents see it.

Already, our staff have caught multiple Republican members of the House doing anything they can to avoid being confronted with the hard truth about Trump’s abuse of power, including pretending to be on the phone, running through stairwells, and hiding in elevators. And we rapidly released these videos within hours. So far, GOP members can’t and won’t answer this question—which is why we need to keep confronting them and putting out the videos for voters to see.

James, we need your help to hire the organizers and film crews, cut videos into ads, and distribute them online. Will you chip in $3 now?

We know that this is effective. Back in 2018, then-Senator Jeff Flake was ready to vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, until an activist confronted him on Capitol Hill and shared her personal story of sexual assault—all captured on video that quickly went viral. In response, Flake changed his mind, only moments before the vote.3

We can, and must, do that again now. And many times over.

During the Kavanaugh fight, we simply didn’t do enough of this “bird dogging”—staking out senators’ offices, committee hearing rooms, the Senate floor, and the routes in between to confront enough GOP senators and capture the moments for the world to see.

When we corner a member of Congress and capture their response on video, it can be game-changing, as it was for then-Senator Flake.

But it’s also very time-consuming and takes teams of people working together to track down members of Congress, who are simultaneously doing everything they can to avoid the public.

If we can increase our presence on Capitol Hill and create a steady stream of these videos in the media and on the air, GOP members of Congress will face a stark reality. When they very visibly say it is okay for Trump to ask a foreign government for help to win the 2020 election, or say it is not okay.

This a clear, simple, straightforward message to send to elected officials, the media, and the public—and it will ensure that the ever-changing and convoluted talking points from Trump’s administration and his loyalists in the right-wing media fall on deaf ears. But it’s resource intensive to hire and train enough organizers to successfully track down GOP members of Congress, have film crews to capture it all on high-quality video, rapidly edit and produce the videos, and then make sure they are seen by voters back home.

We've had enough of Trump and the Republicans

Will you chip in $3 now to help us put organizers and video crews on the ground on Capitol Hill?

Yes, I’m in! I’ll chip in now.

As the impeachment inquiry heads into the next phase, with public hearings and a vote in the House, we can expect that Trump will get more desperate and that his cronies in Congress will pull out all the stops to deflect, distract, and disrupt the proceedings.

We have to stay focused, and not let their chaotic actions rule the news cycle.

That’s why MoveOn is hiring organizers in four key states to build local pressure on key Senators. It’s why we’ve launched a rapid-response network to activate hundreds of rallies the day before the House votes on impeachment. And it’s why we now want to launch this massive bird dogging effort to force GOP members of Congress to answer the simple question at the heart of the Ukraine scandal and the impeachment inquiry.

We have to put our foot on the gas. Will you join us and chip in $3 now?

Thanks for all you do.

Now that Trump’s impeachment investigation is unstoppable,

We want to take a step back and round up all the different parts of our impeachment plan

We’ve told you a lot recently about some of the specific pieces of our work on impeachment. Our ad campaigns, calls to members of Congress, etc. So today we want to take a step back and round up all the different parts of our impeachment plan. (And we’ll be upfront: after we give you the rundown on our work, we’re going to ask you to donate to make it all happen.)

Our big strategy on impeachment boils down to this: we need to build an unprecedented amount of pressure on Congress because we know it’s the only way to get them to do their jobs and hold Trump accountable for his crimes.

Every piece of our strategy is crucial to building the movement that will keep the impeachment process moving. Our work has always been about grassroots power, and we know it’s up to us to harness that power at this pivotal moment for our democracy.

The Major Strategy Pieces

  1. A massive ad campaign We’ve launched targeted digital ads in key congressional districts nationwide. These ads are helping to generate constituent pressure on House Republicans to put democracy before party and vote to impeach. We’re spending $59,000 to keep all our ads live Click here to watch one of the ads and, if you’re inspired, chip in to support our work.
  2. Guides and resources We’re updating our Guide to impeachment and all our democracy resources regularly so that our website is a one-stop hub for all things impeachment. We’re also hosting impeachnow.org, where movement partners nationwide can gather to register events and stay informed. Web hosting costs us $1,000 a month, which is an important expense because we know having a central place for activists to get organized is key to winning this fight.
  3. Organizing on the ground We’re providing the tools activists need to host events and rallies in their communities to put real, visible pressure on their representatives on impeachment. So far, activists have planned more than 140 events and town hall actions, and we’re spending $8,000 to keep our event map live on impeachnow.org that’s the kind of nationwide engagement it’ll take to show Congress we’re serious.
  4. Rapid-response work When there’s a key update on Trump’s crimes, our rapid-response team sends text messages with action items — like when we drove 12,000 calls into House offices in just a few short hours a couple weeks ago. These are important moments for building power and pressure on impeachment, and we do our best to plan for them, but sometimes we have to drop everything to respond to new developments (which is why, last month, we went $22,000 over our budget on texts!).
  5. Impeachment Daily Every weekday, we’re posting a video roundup of all the most important impeachment news. We know it can be hard to follow every new crime and every pivotal testimony, so our Director of Democracy Policy, Meagan Hatcher-Mays, breaks down all the news you need to know to stay on top of what’s happening with impeachment.

All this work happens because Indivisibles everywhere get involved on a massive national scale. As always our FIRST ask is for you to get involved and call your representatives. But beyond that, our next ask is for help in funding this movement. The truth is, to build a movement that’s accountable to the grassroots, we need our work to be grassroots-funded. And that means, you guessed it, we do have to ask for money, regularly.

So please, donate $10 right now to keep all our plans in motion. We truly can’t do any of this without reaching our goal, and we can’t do that without you.

The costs that are harder to count…

Our impeachment strategy has a lot of moving pieces and we’re making serious investments in making it all work. We talked above about some of the specific projects and particular costs associated with them, but of course one of our biggest resources is time: Indivisible organizers and other staff are building the tools and resources that we provide to groups and activists.

Staff all across the organization are working hard every day to keep Indivisibles up to date, keep all our tools working, and build the strategy we need to impeach. If you came into our office one day this week, here’s what you might find:

  • Organizers, working directly with local groups, connecting them with the resources and tools they need to build strong, locally-based impeachment pressure and building an effective and coordinated movement. (Actually, you probably won’t find them in our office, most of them are “in turf” which means they’re spread across the country, near where the groups they work with are based!)
  • The policy team, following the news and providing up-to-the-minute analysis on the latest developments. They’re briefing Indivisible staff, tweeting out explainers, and gathering info from key players to develop the most effective impeachment strategy.
  • The video team, recording and editing the latest edition of Impeachment Daily It stars our Director of Democracy Policy, Meagan Hatcher-Mays, who’s bringing the quick, incisive analysis Indivisibles need to understand the Trump team’s latest crimes.
  • Writers, preparing ad content to pressuring key members of Congress nationwide to vote yes on impeachment, writing emails (like this one!) to update Indivisibles on all our work, and developing messaging to build a broad base of support for impeachment.
  • Designers, creating the graphics we use in Impeachment Daily, in our ad campaigns, and across social media to get the word out and involve even more activists in the impeachment movement.
  • Web developers, keeping the guides on our website up-to-date and building movement resources like impeachnow.org to organize and amplify the efforts of thousands of activists. We push together for open impeachment investigation of Donald Trump.

Trump-Putin conspiracy collusion proven, it reads like an impeachment investigation

That is, to put it lightly, a LOT of work.

All this work is worth it. This is about protecting our democracy. But we literally cannot make it happen without support from people like you. We developed our fundraising philosophy with a deep conviction that we need to be accountable to the people, not to corporations or political parties. That’s why we need our funding to come from the people so we answer to you and no one else.

We’re all in on impeachment, so we need your support to keep working. Can you send us $10 today to reach our goal, impeach the president and implement all our ambitious plans?
